Established in 1845, University College Cork (UCC) is situated on a limestone bluff with a scenic view of the River Lee in Ireland. Ranked among the top 1.1% of universities worldwide, UCC operates under the motto “Where Finbarr Raught, Let Munster Learn,” a tribute to Saint Finbarr, a significant figure from the 6th century.
Originally founded as Queen’s College, the university was established to expand access to higher education in Munster, Ireland’s second-largest region. Named after Queen Victoria, the campus is built around ‘the Quad,’ with Aula Maxima—also known as the Great Hall—serving as the university’s ceremonial and symbolic centrepiece.
