Intakes

The University of Newcastle offers a planned academic calendar with multiple intakes to hold the distinct student population. These are separated into major and minor intakes with different course availability. University of Newcastle intake requirements vary depending on the course choice and student’s status of residency.

Major Intakes (February & July)
The primary University of Newcastle intakes occur twice annually: Semester 1, commencing in February, and Semester 2, beginning in July. These major intakes offer nearly all the postgraduate and undergraduate programs across various disciplines.
February intake allows students to commence their studies at the beginning of the academic year. Similarly, July intake provides a mid-year start to students who prefer to begin their studies in the second half of the year.

Minor Intakes (January, May & August)
Certain programs at the University of Newcastle operate on a trimester system. They are usually covered in the minor intake months of January, May and August. These trimesters are particularly advantageous for specific programs, allowing for accelerated study options and multiple entry points throughout the year.
